Waves

Why is it that we create more suffering for ourselves by resisting the present moment?
The ebbs will flow again.
The flow will ebb again.
How can we embrace life's challenges and the pole we tend to avoid most, with greater trust, ease, acceptance and surrender?

Life moves in rhythms.
Expansion and contraction. Clarity and confusion. Connection and solitude. Creation and rest.
Yet so much of our suffering comes from resisting the phase we're in.
We want the wave to stay at its peak and so we hold it tightly.
We want certainty when life is asking us to trust.
We run from discomfort by staying busy or allowing ourselves to be distracted.
We want the ebb to end before it has revealed its medicine.
The ocean doesn't apologize for its cycles.
The tide comes in. The tide goes out.
The wave rises. The wave dissolves.
Neither is wrong. Neither is permanent.
What if the challenge isn't learning how to control life's movements, but learning how to meet each one with greater presence?
To trust the flow when it arrives. To trust the ebb when it returns.
To stop fighting what is here and discover that peace was never found in avoiding the wave, but allowing it to flow through us.
What part of your life are you being asked to trust more deeply right now?
